LECTURE NOTES

INSTRUCTIONS :

Exercise 1 : Identify the Affordances, Signifiers, Mapping, Feedback for A Mobile App

In week 1, Mr. Hijjaz give us a brief introduction regarding the module. For exercise 1, we are required to choose and app and do an analysis of the app's affordances, signifiers, mapping and feedback.

The app I choose was MyUbat. MyUbat is an app for Malaysian to get medication from government hospitals.
MyUbat was developed to make it easier for patients to apply pharmacy value-added services through a smartphone without the need to come to the pharmacy counter.

Below is my analysis for MyUbat app

After completing exercise 1, Mr. Hijjaz gave us feedback on our exercise. He mention we have labeled our
Affordances, Signifiers, Feedback wrongly. I was able to analyse and view the differences between Affordances, Signifiers, Feedback.

Affordances
  • The relationship between an object and the actions a person can take with that object such as buttons and scroll action
Signifiers
  • Perceptible information or clue that signals your user to act in a desired way such as icons
Feedback
  • A sort of ‘reward’ to tell user that they are on-track or have had a significant milestone in the user experience journey such as notification, vibration, tracking bar etc.
Exercise 2 : User Experience

For exercise 2, we are required to choose and app that provide in store services. Based on the app chosen, we have to use the app in store and analyse our experience as user. The app I have chosen is Gigi Coffee.

Below is my analysis and experience when using the app

REFLECTION

Experience
This module was different from other modules as get to analyse app as a designer and user. This gave me the chance to learn about app and its importance of a good and bad app design.

Observations
Through the exercise, I was able to observe and point out what makes the app good and what can be improve.  I was also able to observe my classmates' analysis and learn from the perspective on what is good and bad design for the app they have research on.

Findings
Based on both the exercise, I was able to identify the difference between Affordances, Signifiers, Feedback and what is the difference between UI and UX.
