Task 1 : Create an empathy map and define the problem statement

INSTRUCTIONS :

Task 1 : Create an empathy map and define the problem statement

In week 1, Ms. Lilian
give us a brief introduction regarding the module. For this module, we are collaborating with IN.Deed Communications on a campaign by GSK. The campaign is called the #Giveback campaign by GSK. The campaign focuses on safe and responsible disposal of old and used inhalers. After the module briefing, we are split into groups for the projects.

RESEARCH
For this module, we are collaborating with IN.Deed Communications on a campaign by GSK.  GSK is a global biopharma company with the ambition and purpose to unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together. GSK's campaign, #Give back campaign focuses on safe and responsible disposal of old and used inhalers. Through this campaign, #GiveBack provides a solution for patients to responsibly dispose their inhalers.

PROGRESS
Week 1 progress
For task 1, we are required to create an empathy map and define the problem statement. We start by researching GSK, its campaign, and news/article about medical waste (inhalers and blister packs).

We have then compiled our research into a MIRO board. After compiling our research, we start working on our empathy map which explores actions, thoughts and actions.

After identifying the empathy map, we start working on the problem statement. We also came out with problem questions to help us identify our problem statement.

We also compiled some references for our next course of action. Our references consist of different natural elements such as sea and nature. Our idea is to reflect the effects of the inhalers and blister packs are not disposed of properly.

FEEDBACK FOR WEEK 1 PROGRESS:
  • The empathy map needs to be specifically from the target audiences point of view
  • Create audience/persona as the current empathy map is targeting on us, student
  • How does the problem question solve the issue?
  • Problem questions are meant to be related to the solution
  • Split references into 2 parts, water and nature (land)
NEXT COURSE OF ACTION
  • Rework on the empathy map

Week 2 progress
Based on last week's feedback, we rework our empathy map. We created a specific and expanded empathy map.

Fig 6. Empathy map attempt #2

We start compiling our research, empathy, problem statement and problem questions into a presentation slide. We also start working on our project document.

FEEDBACK FOR WEEK 2 PROGRESS:
  • Continue working on the target audience.
NEXT COURSE OF ACTION
  • Work on the presentation slide
Week 3 progress
For week 3, we present our presentation slide.

FEEDBACK FOR WEEK 3 (PRESENTATION):
  • Create personas to help us figure out the target audience.
NEXT COURSE OF ACTION:
  • Create personas for final submission
Based on the feedback, we did our amendments. We came up with 3 different personas. We split the work into 2 group members to work on one persona. Before we hand it in, we discussed going through the amendments for task 1 slides and the project document before submitting the final version.

REFLECTION
Experience
This module was different from other modules as we are going to create a sculpture with a material that we see daily. I am thankful as I was able to be in a group where everyone is cooperative and friendly. I am looking forward to the other task for this module.

Observations
For the first task, I was able to observe that we never stop and think about where the waste goes when disposing of medical waste. Besides that, I was able to look at references and observe how blisters pack/ inhalers are incorporated into the art pieces which are interesting and creative.

Findings
From the first task, I was able to research proper ways to dispose of medical waste. I was able to educate myself and start implementing these good habits when disposing of medical waste.
