INSTRUCTIONS :
Task 4 : Brand Guideline
For task 4, we are required to create a E brand guideline (interactive pdf) for our brands that we have work on in task 2 and 3.
Week 10
Firstly, I start of by listing down the content that will be included in the brand guideline.
After listing down the content, I start working on the grid systems and some potential layouts. For the grid system, I used 3 columns and for guides, 5 rows and columns.

After my first attempt, I realized my layout doesn't reflect the brand concept (fun and playful).
Week 12
During the feedback session, Ms. Lilian also gave some feedback for task 2.
During the feedback session with Ms. Lilian for the first attempt, she suggested I can incorporate some design element from the logo design (diamond from the collateral design). She also suggested that I can incorporate photographs as the background or crop into the design element shapes (bubble/drink wave) to make the layout look more interesting.
After receiving the feedback, I start reworking the layouts. I felt very lost and unsure so I have decided to work on a new grid system (4 column and for guides, 7 columns and 4 rows). I also tried different options for the navigation bar.

Week 13
During the feedback session for the second attempt, Ms. Lilian suggested that I can edit the photograph colour to suit the colour palette of the brand. She also suggested that I can try different colour for the font in the navigation bar. I also shown her the refine items from task 2. After receiving the feedback, I start working on refining the layouts.

After getting my layouts done, I ask Ms. Lilian for some feedback. After getting some feedback, I start refining the brand guideline.
Fig. 9 Layout #5 attempt
After getting the refinement done, I start create the navigation buttons. It took some time as there were a lot of pages. During the process, I have explored different button effects that suits the brand guideline. After creating the button, I test the buttons and refine the final version.

REFLECTIONS
Experience
From this task, it was an interesting experience. At the beginning of the task, I felt unsure and lost in what I should do and how should I start this task. After working on the first attempt and talking to Ms. Lilian, I have a better understanding on what to do to make the brand guideline look interesting. Throughout this task, I have learned a lot from my mistakes. Overall, it was a learning experience.
Observations
Throughout this task, I have observe some brand guideline as example. I observe that the brand guideline should reflect the brand concept through the design and layout which makes me felt like I didn't reflect the brand well in my first attempt for the brand guideline. After a few attempt, I have a much clearer understanding on how a brand guideline should be.
Findings
Throughout this task, I realized that consistency is important in creating the brand guideline. Layout and the content need to be consistent to look good together. A lot of thought and consideration is needed in creating the brand guideline to make sure it reflects the brand concept well.

How to create a brand style guide (Shirley Chan,2019)
A brand guide takes the concept of the brand and translates it into design. The brand guideline tells everyone how to communicate your brand. A brand guideline is a rulebook that explains how a brand presents itself through its logo, font, colour selection and much more.
